Seismic exploration for raw materials, energy and geothermal energy
2D and 3D seismic surveys are among the most important geophysical methods for the non-destructive investigation of the subsurface.

Exploratory seismic surveys enable high-resolution mapping of geological structures and provide the basis for well-informed decisions in mineral exploration, geothermal energy, the mining industry and the assessment of potential final disposal sites.
Seismic data can be used to precisely map deposit geometries, depths and geological structures. This helps to minimise risks and uncertainties and to underpin investment decisions at an early stage.

Are you responsible for exploration projects at your company? I look forward to working with you to develop the optimal seismic strategy for your project.
DMT has decades of experience in the planning, execution and interpretation of seismic surveys worldwide. Our experts acquire high-quality 2D and 3D seismic data onshore and support projects from the initial feasibility study right through to the advanced development phase.
Unlike the isolated information provided by individual boreholes, 3D seismic data in particular delivers a comprehensive picture of the subsurface. This enables a more precise understanding of deposits, reservoirs and geological structures, and provides a robust basis for planning, risk analysis and investment decisions.
As a full-service partner for seismic exploration, we develop bespoke acquisition programmes to meet a wide range of geological and technical requirements.
Our range of services includes:
For data acquisition, we use state-of-the-art vibroseis and pulse sources, as well as wired and wireless recording systems, including SUMMIT X One, AutoSeis and Sercel. Our systems are suitable for surveys down to depths of around 7 kilometres.
Whether it’s mineral exploration, a geothermal project or complex subsurface investigations: high-quality seismic data provides the basis for sound decisions and sustainable investments.

The quality of seismic data has a significant impact on the success of an exploration project. We therefore optimise all acquisition parameters and workflows right from the planning stage.
The result:
By combining expertise in the geosciences, state-of-the-art measurement technology and digitally supported analysis methods, we provide information for technically challenging projects in the fields of raw materials, energy and infrastructure.
DMT is an independent, globally active partner providing engineering services and consultancy, and forms part of the TÜV NORD GROUP. With more than 100 exploration projects successfully supported worldwide, we combine technical excellence, international experience and the highest quality standards.
Our teams work in accordance with recognised industry standards and are certified to DIN EN ISO 9001, DIN EN ISO 14001 and DIN EN ISO 45001. With a Lost Time Incident Rate (LTI) of less than 1 and the consistent implementation of OGP standards, safety, quality and responsibility are at the heart of our work.
As a member of the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), we are actively committed to knowledge transfer, innovation and the continuous development of seismic methods.
2D seismic surveys map the subsurface along individual profiles. 3D seismic surveys, on the other hand, produce a three-dimensional model of geological structures and allow for a much more detailed interpretation.
3D seismic technology is used in mineral exploration, geothermal energy, natural gas and hydrogen storage, mining, and infrastructure and final disposal projects.
Depending on the geology, measurement configuration and objectives, seismic surveys can reach depths of several kilometres. The systems used by DMT are designed for surveys down to around 7 km.
Reflection seismology provides high-resolution images of the subsurface, improves geological models, reduces project uncertainties and supports well-informed investment decisions.
DMT offers the complete process chain – comprising planning, data acquisition, data processing, modelling, interpretation and seismic monitoring – all from a single source.
