Digital process simulation for optimal plant design

Efficient coke oven gas treatment requires a thorough understanding of thermal and chemical processes. That is why we use state-of-the-art simulation tools and validated process models.

Our models accurately replicate the actual conditions in gas scrubbers, tar separators and gas purification plants. Based on empirically validated operating data, we can:

  • reliably design new plants,
  • plan expansions and modernisations,
  • identify capacity bottlenecks,
  • increase energy and resource efficiency,
  • quickly identify opportunities for optimising existing plants.

Our range of services also includes the planning and integration of Claus plants and other sulphur recovery processes.

Process gas purification for other industries as well

Coke oven gas purification technologies can be successfully applied to other industrial applications. These include, amongst others:

  • Natural gas processing
  • Refinery processes
  • Carbide production
  • Chemical industry
  • Speciality chemical plants

By combining engineering expertise, digital process simulation and many years of operational experience, DMT develops cost-effective and sustainable solutions for a wide variety of process gases.

What you should know

Frequently Asked Questions on gas treatment technology and coke oven gas treatment

Coke oven gas treatment encompasses all processes involved in the purification, cooling and further processing of coke oven gas. The aim is to remove undesirable components and to recover valuable products such as sulphur, ammonia or BTX.

Typically, ammonia, hydrogen sulphide, hydrocyanic acid, naphthalene and aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene and xylene are removed.

A by-product recovery plant processes and purifies the raw gas produced during the coking process. At the same time, it enables the recovery of valuable by-products and improves the coking plant’s economic efficiency.

A bottleneck analysis identifies capacity constraints and process weaknesses. This enables targeted measures to be devised to increase throughput, efficiency and plant availability.

Yes. These technologies are also used successfully in natural gas processing, in refineries, in the chemical industry and in other industrial process gas applications.
