The methane in coal deposits is known by many names:
Firedamp, mine gas, coal seam gas or unconventional gas is now valued as a valuable raw material for generating electricity and heat. This is also due to the fact that it can be extracted at any stage of mining, be it before a coal deposit is opened up, during the operation of the mine, after the end of mining or even as an independent resource from unmined seams.

Extraction is possible at various stages of mining: prior to the development of a coal seam, during ongoing operations, following the closure of a mine, or from unmined seams. The key factors are the safe collection, reliable processing and cost-effective utilisation of the gas.
DMT supports surface gas extraction projects with engineering expertise and interdisciplinary know-how. We develop solutions tailored to the geological conditions, the gas quality and the specific requirements of each project.
Our solutions take into account the specific characteristics of the reservoir, as well as the composition, quantity and quality of the available gas.
In this way, we create the technical conditions for the safe, efficient and responsible use of this energy source.
In surface degassing, methane from coal deposits is extracted in a controlled manner via boreholes from the surface. The gas can be extracted before, during or after mining, as well as from unmined seams, and channelled towards a suitable use.
After appropriate treatment, mine gas can be used to generate electricity and heat. The most suitable utilisation option depends, amongst other things, on the volume and quality of the gas, the infrastructure and the economic conditions of the project in question.
DMT supports projects ranging from the evaluation of deposits through the planning of drilling operations and facilities to the extraction, processing and utilisation of mine gas. In doing so, we take into account geological conditions, safety requirements and specific operational objectives.
