Engineering and consultancy firm DMT is tapping into new markets in Latin America

Belo Horizonte, 17 April 2024 – DMT, part of the Energy & Resources business unit of the TÜV NORD GROUP, has acquired a majority stake in the Brazilian company Saga Consultoria and is bringing the business under the DMT brand umbrella. This move expands the engineering and consultancy service provider’s presence to include a location in Belo Horizonte. From 17 April 2024, customers in Latin America will be able to access the full range of raw materials services and more via the new DMT hub.

For Jens-Peter Lux, Managing Director of DMT, the majority stake in Saga Consultoria opens up the opportunity to tap into future markets: “Thanks to its significant reserves of mineral resources, Brazil plays a key role in the energy and mobility transition, digitalisation and greater sustainability in the raw materials sector.” Dr Maik Tiedemann, CEO of the Energy & Resources Business Unit at the TÜV NORD GROUP and DMT, adds: “Furthermore, the country and our new acquisition provide access to other key markets in Latin America, such as the infrastructure, construction and energy sectors. We look forward to showcasing the DMT brand and demonstrating our capabilities in this region as well.”

The Saga Consultoria team consists of 15 geologists, mining engineers and technicians, led by the company’s founders, Saulo Liberato and Luiz Gabriel Oliveira Lima. In the past, Saga Consultoria focused on consultancy services in the mining sector, producing, amongst other things, feasibility studies, economic viability analyses and resource assessments. Furthermore, as part of DMT, Saga Consultoria now provides access to a comprehensive portfolio spanning the entire raw materials value chain and beyond.

Access to services across the entire raw materials value chain

DMT’s service portfolio in the commodities sector covers all stages of the value chain. This includes, amongst other things, the exploration and assessment of resources, feasibility studies and detailed mining plans, construction supervision and project management, engineering consultancy, optimisation and training, digitalisation and automation, due diligence for the financial and insurance sectors, decommissioning concepts and planning, as well as sustainability / ESG concepts and implementation consultancy.

Furthermore, DMT operates in the markets of plant engineering & process engineering, infrastructure & construction, and energy. Companies and public institutions in Latin America can now, for example, also seek support from the DMT GROUP for geothermal projects, plant planning or tunnelling.

The new and expanded structure of Saga Consultoria as part of DMT will be officially unveiled in May.
