Critical infrastructure protection
The National Strategy for Critical Infrastructure Protection (KRITIS strategy) of Germany’s Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BKK) defines critical infrastructures as follows: ‘Critical infrastructures (CI) are organizational and physical structures and facilities of such vital importance to a nation’s society and economy that their failure or degradation would result in sustained supply shortages, significant disruption of public safety and security, or other dramatic consequences.’
The DMT GROUP offers a comprehensive consultancy and services package for critical infrastructures in order to assist global, national and regional key industries with the construction, operation, maintenance and restoration of such infrastructures.
More
Our expertise in the area of critical infrastructures is hugely important in menacing situations in particular, as businesses and projects around the world have to be able to manage disruptions and risks safely, such as those caused by COVID-19. Failure safety, security of supply, business continuity and contingency planning are top priorities both nationally and globally.
In this context, DMT has launched an online resource which is designed to assist key industries around the world in maintaining their critical infrastructures by monitoring and managing the key systems and assets. Many of the services within the package can be performed remotely and are also available to global industries and businesses.
Under the catchword ‘Resilience matters’, the service provider DMT offers a comprehensive array of engineering and consultancy services to support the areas of energy, transport, health, water and infrastructure. DMT’s assistance with critical infrastructure facilities encompasses motorways, power plants, mine shafts, health care facilities, waterways, bridges, structures and tunnels – all to ensure that owners and operators have round-the-clock access to expert advice and valid information, and also, if required, 24/7 service that includes a task force. All to help them operate their infrastructures safely under any conditions and thus be able to fulfil their remit of guaranteeing a functioning society and economy.
their remit of guaranteeing a functioning society and economy.
The fundamental requirements for supporting critical infrastructures as an engineering services provider:
Proximity, including globally, thanks to remote expertise, comprehensiveness of the in-house portfolio, expert and equipment redundancy, agility thanks to the ability to adapt to new situations, long-term business relations in the context of system complexities, foresight on the basis of the latest experience, a willingness to change and innovative capacity, as well as comprehensive digitalisation expertise in order to advise on and manage any digitalisation processes concerning critical infrastructures.

DMT assists the operators of power plants who wish to implement the Federal Office for Information Security’s Ordinance on the Identification of Critical Infrastructures (BSI-KritisV) as a precautionary measure and when planning and executing new power plants (or additions) and who are looking to protect themselves from cybercrime.
The starting point is the replacement of control technology systems in the context of planning combined cycle plants and/or power plant conversions. We are here to help them develop concepts and adapt the BSI specifications. In the process, IT security is seen as an aspect of a site-specific security concept, the formulation of which is heavily influenced by the DMT experts.

Surface collapses and sinkholes represent a risk which is not to be taken lightly and can cause considerable damage to all kinds of infrastructural facilities, often resulting in the lengthy outage of systems, road and rail networks or power lines. This has a significant impact on people, the environment and the economy.
When these predominantly unforeseeable hazard situations occur, we know how to manage the acute situation as well as how to develop long-term restoration and securing scenarios and implement concrete measures that result in lasting stability against collapse once again.
