Health and Safety Audit in Hard Coal Mine, Georgia

DMT experts have been selected by the trilateral commission of the Ministries of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs and Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia to study a hard coal mine in Tkibuli, Georgia.

DMT Engineers have visited the underground mine and become familiar with the proper documentation that has now been taken to the head office for further investigation. The deadline for provision of the final conclusion is defined to be 5 weeks, while interim reports will be provided as well.

The purpose of the process is to explore the possibility of further operation of the underground mine in terms of the technical condition of the mine and work safety. In addition, DMT will provide the recommendations for improvement of the mine functionality associated with the use of new technologies, modern equipment and machinery, as well as in regard to proper operation and management of the work process.

For the city of Tkibuli, the coal mine is the only main employer for local residents. Due to several accidents in the Mindeli mine, the government of Georgia has stopped the coal extraction and is awaiting DMT’s expert opinion and recommendations for its decision on the future of the coal industry in Georgia.
