Brandenburg goes 3D

DMT wins contract for developing extensive geological subsurface model

At the beginning of January, the Essen based company DMT GmbH & Co. KG was commissioned to create a 3D image of what the German state of Brandenburg looks like deep underground. The digital subsurface model will cover a total area of approx. 29,500 km².

Both DMT and its partner for this contract, ERCOSPLAN Ingenieurgesellschaft Geotechnik und Bergbau mbH, have years of extensive experience in generating three-dimensional geological models of this kind.
The model will be based on subsurface data taken from around 780 borehole reports and records (bore logs). In addition the project team will consult some 3,700 depth profile sheets, approx. 1,120 horizon maps and around 550 map sheets from the regional reflection seismology cartographic collection. The 3D model will be uploaded to the internet, making regional geological data available to businesses as well as local citizens.
