Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) / Georadar: High-resolution exploration with DMT

Reliable and effective inspection of road surfaces, route exploration and object location: Our georadar and ground radar measurements provide you with high-resolution underground surveys. We have the right radar equipment for every application, whether for road exploration during traffic-flow or for borehole exploration: Our systems operate reliably both above and below the surface, giving you concrete information about the road surface, subsoil and underground routes.

Benefit from our many years of experience in the field of geophysics and geotechnics.

Monitoring of Road Surfaces

High-resolution ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a non-destructive technique used for monitoring road surfaces. The latest version of DMT’s vehicle-mounted, inherently safe and high-speed measuring system is specially adapted for this application. The fast measuring speed with simultaneous GPS georeferencing usually allows measuring to be carried out in the general flow of the traffic. Smaller areas can be examined as required using a flexible hand instrument.

It is possible to obtain a range of different information from GPR results depending on what the focus of the investigation is:

  • Design of layers and layer thickness
  • Division into homogeneous sections of similar design
  • Transverse design, distance from specific fixtures, spread
  • Optimised drilling plan for obtaining representative drill cores
  • Damage analysis and assessment

In addition to using the standard layout with line-based measurements, it is possible to carry out investigations of entire surfaces applying so-called array or scanner systems; these are ideally suited for performing object-oriented damage analysis.

Route exploration and object detection with GPR

In addition, georadar is the ideal supplement for route exploration of supply and disposal networks. The system records the radar data georeferenced along the planned route and provides you with a high-resolution, continuous model of the near subsurface, enabling the detection of interfering bodies, lines, cables, pipes and cavities in the soil as well as compaction and loosening zones.

DMT Georadar: Simple and effective

To enhance this structural model, it is then calibrated with the aid of probes and soil samples to integrate the geotechnical soil properties. Our experts carry out the survey and create a continuous model of the roadbed, showing homogeneous sections, possible inhomogeneous areas and faults in the bedrock.

These results are prepared in such a way that they can be transferred to any standard route planning system. Our engineers also supplement radar exploration with further environmentally friendly geophysical methods as required for exploration at greater depths.
