Deep Geothermal Energy – Site Investigation: Borehole Measurements

Reference Project Borehole Measurements in the Rhenish Mining Area

Borehole measurements to determine the geothermal potential in the Rhenish mining area - Borehole logging provides important information on the geothermal potential of the subsurface under investigation. DMT develops individual measurement programmes for specific problems that deliver results tailored to the task in hand.

In Hambach, DMT has made an important contribution to determining the geothermal potential of the Tertiary sands in lying coal seams in the Rhenish mining area with geophysical borehole measurements and has produced an extensive data set on temperature, porosity, permeability and structural information on stratification and fracturing.

Figures, data, facts

  • Borehole diameter 200mm, drilled depth 400m
  • Client: RWE Power AG
  • Implementation in April 2023
