Deep Geothermal Energy – Site Investigation: 3D-Seismics

Reference Project GeoHardt: Site Investigation in the Urban Rhine-Neckar region

3D seismic exploration in densely populated Rhine-Neckar region - Exploration of the subsurface by means of 3D seismics to depths of 5,000 meters and more is the basic prerequisite for successful drilling and thus the use of deep geothermal energy. These investigations can be particularly challenging in densely populated urban areas. On behalf of GeoHardt GmbH, a company of EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG and MVV Energie AG from Mannheim, DMT explored an area of over 8,000 hectares in the Rhine-Neckar region with seismic teams within just six weeks in February and March 2023. Data evaluation and modeling will provide the basis for supplying regional urban neighbor-hoods with thermal energy from deep geothermal energy.

>Figures, data, facts

  • Display of nearly 7,000 geophones for data collection
  • Measurement over an area of more than 8,000 hectares in the urban agglomeration of the Rhine-Neckar region
  • DMT services: Planning, preparation, implementation of seismic exploration.
