7.5 million euros in funding for electrolyser in Essen. With the support of DMT, the Dutch company VoltH2 is driving forward the energy transition

1,600 tonnes of green hydrogen per year: that's how much will be produced at two electrolysis plants in North Rhine-Westphalia in future to drive the energy transition beyond the Ruhr region. One plant is being built at the so-called “climate harbour” in Gelsenkirchen, the second at the campus of our parent company TÜV NORD GROUP in Essen.

Last week, the operator, the Dutch company VoltH2, received a grant of 15 million euros for the two plants from Mona Neubaur, Deputy Minister President of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. This is the first time that investment by a Dutch company in the production of green hydrogen for mobility has been subsidised in North Rhine-Westphalia. Even the Dutch King Willem-Alexander travelled to the Duisburg Landscape Park for the occasion.

We are particularly proud that two companies from the TÜV NORD GROUP's Engineering & Natural Resources business unit played a key role in the realisation of this funding: EE ENERGY ENGINEERS GmbH made a key contribution to the successful application of the Rhine-Ruhr metropolis for the HyPerformer programme of the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) and supports VoltH2 at the electrolysis sites in Gelsenkirchen and Wilhelmshaven. Together with ENCOS, EE ENERGY ENGINEERS is also preparing the application to the authorities on the basis of which the project is to be approved.

"Hydrogen is a central pillar of the energy transition. We are therefore delighted to be working with VoltH2 to turn the Ruhr region into a hydrogen metropolis," says Maik Tiedemann, CEO DMT and CEO of the TÜV NORD GROUP's Engineering & Natural Resources business unit.
